Ulew Tinimit is a K’iche phrase meaning “the Land of the people”. The School is located in Salcajá, Quetzaltenango. The primary focus of the Center, is the teaching of Spanish as a second language. Additionally, our community projects support local development at many different levels and allow our students to interact directly with Guatemalan culture.
Ulew Tinimit was founded in 1992 with the vision of contributing to the development of our country through our own efforts and in collaboration with the participants in our programmes. All profits go towards the school and community development projects.
The center offers intensive Spanish language classes at all levels from beginner to advanced. All of our instructors have a professional background and are university educated with a wide range of specialties, such as education, economics, social work and politics. The teaching is personalized: one instructor for every student which allows the pace and the material studied to be tailored to the needs of each student. For those on a tight schedule and who wish to make the most out of their time and money we offer a wide range of individual and group course options.
Our basic principles are:
- To provide effective education of Spanish as a second language.
- To give students and volunteers an insight into the Mayan culture.
- To coordinate and encourage groups, cooperatives and communities in their self-development
Ulew Tinimit is recognized by the “MINISTERIO DE EDUCACION DE GUATEMALA” and the “INSTITUTO GUATEMALTECO DE TURISMO (INGUAT)”, and is member of “ASOCIACION DE ESCUELAS DE ESPAÑOL DE QUETZALTENANGO (ACEEQ)”
